What We Do

Electrical Panel Upgrade, Done Properly

The panel is the one piece of your electrical system everything else depends on, and on the East End a lot of them are older than the people living with them: fuse boxes in Riverhead farmhouses, 100-amp panels in Hampton Bays ranches that now run central air and a pool, Federal Pacific boxes in Westhampton cottages. We replace panels, upgrade services from 100 to 200 amps, add subpanels, and fix the smaller things that go wrong inside a panel between upgrades.

What We Handle

  • Full panel replacement: typically 200 amps, 40 spaces, new main breaker, grounding and bonding brought to current code, labelled circuits.
  • Service upgrade: meter pan and service cable with the panel when the service itself goes from 100 to 200 amps, coordinated with PSEG Long Island.
  • Subpanels: for a garage, a pool house, an addition or a workshop.
  • Breaker work: circuit breaker replacement, AFCI and GFCI breakers where the code now requires them, fuse box to breaker conversions.
  • Whole-house surge protection at the panel, which is cheap insurance for the electronics in a modern house.
  • Aluminum wiring remediation and code corrections found during the upgrade or flagged by an inspector.

How It Works

Andrew comes out, runs a load calculation and looks at the service. You get a written quote that lists every part. On the day, we schedule the PSEG disconnect for the morning, replace the panel, and have the municipal inspection done so the power comes back on the same day for most homes.

When you need this

  • Fuses, or a breaker panel from a brand with a known failure record: Federal Pacific, Zinsco, some Challenger panels.
  • Breakers that trip under normal use, warm breakers, scorch marks, buzzing.
  • No room for new circuits and you are adding an EV charger, a heat pump, a hot tub, or finishing a basement.
  • 100-amp service in a house that now runs central air, a pool and an induction range.
  • Your insurer or a home inspector flagged it, or you are selling and need an electrical inspection for the sale.

Why East West Express Electric

Andrew has done this job many times in older Suffolk County houses, and a crew of three means the panel swap and the circuit tracing happen at the same time instead of over two days. Licence #70709, permit and inspection in the quote.

Common Questions

How do I know my panel needs replacing?

Fuses, a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel, breakers that trip under normal use, warm breakers, scorch marks or buzzing, or no room for new circuits are all reasons to have it looked at.

How long does it take?

Most homes are done in a day, with the inspection the same day so the power comes back on.

Can you just add a subpanel instead?

Often, if the main service has the capacity. The load calculation tells us. A subpanel is cheaper than a service upgrade and is the right answer for a garage or an addition when the main panel is sound.
