What We Do

Generator Installation, Done Properly

The East End loses power more than the rest of the Island: long overhead runs through trees, salt air on the equipment, and a nor'easter or two every autumn. A generator is the one upgrade customers never regret. We install the electrical side of standby generators, hook up portable generators properly, and size the whole thing around what you want to keep running.

What We Handle

  • Standby generator. Permanently installed, runs on natural gas or propane, starts itself when the power drops. Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, Cummins. The electrical side is ours: the automatic transfer switch, the feeder and the load management. The gas line is a licensed plumber's work, and we coordinate it so the job finishes in one visit where possible.
  • Portable generator hookup. A manual transfer switch or interlock kit and an outdoor inlet, so you plug a portable generator in once instead of running cords through a window. The affordable option for most homes that lose power a few times a year.
  • Load management. Choosing which circuits the generator carries: refrigerator and freezer, well pump, boiler or furnace, sump pump, a few lights and outlets, Wi-Fi. Whole-house with central air is possible and costs more.
  • Service and repair of transfer switches and generator wiring installed by someone else.

How It Works

Everything is a trade between what you want to run and what you want to spend. Andrew walks through it with you, puts the numbers in the quote, and handles the permit. Standby units also need a pad placement that meets setbacks from windows and property lines, which matters on tight village lots in Westhampton Beach or Southampton; we site it with you before anything is ordered.

Permits

Every town on the East End requires an electrical permit for a transfer switch, and most want a plan for the generator pad; we pull the permit and meet the inspector.

Why East West Express Electric

A transfer switch installed right means no backfeed onto the utility line, which can injure the lineman restoring your street, and no guessing in the dark. Licence #70709, fully insured, and a crew that can run the feeder and set the switch the same day.

Common Questions

Standby or portable?

Standby runs itself on gas or propane and costs more; a portable hookup (transfer switch or interlock plus an inlet) is the affordable option for a house that loses power a few times a year.

Who does the gas line?

A licensed plumber. We handle the electrical side and coordinate the two so the job finishes in one visit where possible.

Can you set it up for a house we only use in summer?

Yes. A standby unit self-tests weekly and starts on its own; we can set up remote monitoring so you or your caretaker know it ran.
